Coolsculpting lives up to the hype!

If you haven’t heard of Coolsculpting (AKA if you’ve been living under a rock) let me catch you up to speed. Coolsculpting is an effective and efficient body sculpting modality that permanently reduces unwanted fat by freezing it. Fat is a wimpy tissue, it freezes at a higher temperature and melts at a lower temperature than any other tissue type. This means that your fat can be killed by cold (or heat) while other tissue types (such as skin and connective tissue) stay safe and unharmed. When Coolsculpting is performed, it brings fat to -11 degrees Celsius, which causes individual fat cells to freeze and break apart. The dead fat tissue is then reduced naturally by your body’s macrophages (garbage eating cells).

When I evaluate a patient to determine whether or not they’re a candidate for Coolsculpting, I’m looking at overall bulk (amount of fat) and skin tone. If a patient has too much fat, they are sometimes a better candidate for liposuction. If a patient has a high degree of skin laxity (loose skin), sometimes an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a better choice. This is why a consultation and physical examination is so important- not everyone is a good candidate, which directly effects the results that are achievable with Coolsculpting. I want my patients to get the best results possible, so I’m always up front about what can be achieved for each individual patient with Coolsculpting.

On the day of treatment, we use our applicator template to mark and outline exactly where we’ll do the treatment. The applicator head is then attached to the treatment area (using vacuum suction). This typically feels like a pulling, tugging, or pressure sensation. The cooling then begins, and most patients describe it as a tingling, stinging, or burning sensation- after about 5 minutes, those sensations go away because the tissue is numbed by the cold. Total treatment time (per applicator) is 35 minutes. A Coolsculpting treatment decreases the body’s fat stores in the treated area by 20-25%. Most patients choose to be treated a second time to get an even greater reduction (in the 40-50% range).

I have been extremely pleased with our Coolsculpting results- all of my patients have been happy with their outcomes and many have come back to get other body zones treated after having great initial results. I’ve been so pleased, in fact, that I recently underwent Coolsculpting of the abdomen myself! It was an incredibly easy treatment (a 0 on a 1-10 pain scale). Like most patients, I was tender to the touch and a bit swollen in the treatment area for about a week afterwards, but that was it. Now I just have to wait for my results to reveal themselves! Now is the perfect time to be treated before summer swimsuit season is in full swing. If you book a Coolsculpting treatment anytime during the month of April, we are offering $100 off! Give us a call today- you’ll be one step closer to achieving the body of your dreams!
