All too often we’re so busy caring for other people that we forget to set aside time or preserve energy for ourselves. Over time, small problems become larger ones and can no longer be ignored. Sometimes patients ask me, “Have I waited too long? Is there anything you can do for me?” Happily, I can tell them, “Absolutely!!” It’s never too late to invest in you! I love being able to provide my patients with transformative treatments that boost their confidence and make them feel youthful and more refreshed. Yes, starting early is beneficial in that we can prevent problems before they become full-fledged, but treating at any stage still produces wonderful changes and rejuvenation is possible at any age.
Another question I get frequently is, “I have so much work to do, where should I start?” A great place to start is with neuromodulator (Botox or Dysport). These products are perfect for softening lines and wrinkles of expression on the forehead, around the eyes, and on parts of the lower face. Typically when I begin working with a patient, I start out carefully, with the lowest possible dose that I believe will produce the desired result. I never want to “freeze” or take away all facial expression. It’s important to achieve a balanced result by not overtreating (or undertreating) but using just the right amount. Oftentimes, we find that we need to use less dermal filler if we start first with neuromodulator, which provides a financial benefit patients.
Dermal filler is what I suggest next. Most of us have asymmetries in our structure, or facial features that are out of balance and in disharmony with the rest of the face. In an older patient, there are often areas that have lost volume naturally over time. Filer is perfect to restore balance, volume, and harmony with the rest of the face. Different products are used in different areas of the face to produce lovely, natural results. I’m always looking for ways to provide more “bang” for my patients’ buck- and I use techniques that showcase each type of filler in the best way possible. In zones that are highly vascular, I use a cannula to place the filler safely and with little to no risk of bleeding or bruising. Other zones require a needle for placement in order to get the best outcome. All of these techniques will be discussed at the time of a patient’s consultation, so expectations are established.
Don’t forget the improvements we can make to the body! We are thrilled to be able to offer our patients the gold standard in non-invasive fat reduction: CoolSculpting! When I worked in Chicago, my practice offered 2 other fat reduction technologies: one that heated fat to kill it, and one that used radiofrequency (RF) energy to destroy fat. These treatments produced only modest results- and to be frank I was disappointed with the outcomes compared to the pain and price of the procedure. When I began using Coolsculpting, needless to say I was skeptical that it would be any better. Thankfully, this technology proved me wrong. It not only met but exceeded my expectations. My patients are getting amazing results, and are coming back to treat additional zones because they’re so happy with their outcomes! Even patients who have some skin laxity or significant fat pockets are successful with Coolsculpting.
