Have you gained weight during the pandemic? You’re not alone. I think we can all agree that getting back to (some) normalcy will feel incredibly refreshing, part of which may include ditching some unwanted pounds.
The last year has taken quite a toll on our physical health and wellness.
The most common issues of lockdown for many Americans have been an increase in drinking alcohol and unwanted changes in sleeping habits. The most frequently reported, however, has been unwanted weight gain. Stress during the pandemic has been high causing people to unintentionally gain (or, in some cases, lose) weight.
In fact, a survey conducted by The American Psychological Association found that the majority of people, (61%!) said they experienced changes to their weight. The same survey found that of American adults, the average amount of undesired weight gained during the pandemic was 29 pounds, with 10% gaining more than 50 pounds.
The consequences of weight gain on overall health are numerous, including putting people at a higher risk for serious illness from coronavirus. The additional risks associated with being overweight include higher mortality rates, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and more; not to mention you probably just don’t feel good.
